Total Defence Day

With the theme, ‘Together We Keep Singapore Strong’, the commemoration of Total Defence Day (TDD) continues to remind us that everyone plays a part in keeping Singapore safe for everybody.

The main attraction of the celebration was held on Friday, 19th Feb 2016, when police officers set up a static display of the SPF police car and SCDF Red Rhino at recess time. During the week, after the flag raising ceremony, our uniformed groups discussed their involvement and roles in Total Defence. Assembly talks and performances also took place throughout the week. One of the highlights was when cadets from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) displayed an impressive performance of precision and fancy drills. The Drama Club also presented a skit about Social Defence, conveying an important message of needing to understand each other and remaining cohesive as one nation.

The Total Defence Day lesson packages were carried out during our Character & Citizenry Education lessons. These customised lesson packages were designed to suit each level. For lower secondary classes, the teachers explained the significance of Total Defence Day and the Five Pillars of Total Defence, and Woodgrovers read The Straits Times Total Defence Special Edition article – “Defining a Nation”. For upper secondary classes, teachers asked the students to recall the Five Pillars of Total Defence and asked them to give examples for each of the pillar. The upper secondary students discussed this year’s theme “Together, we keep SG strong”. Lower secondary students searched and thought of quotes on how to motivate Singaporeans to play their part in Total Defence. And lastly, the upper secondary students had to write their very own pledge for our country, Singapore.

We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who helped and supported the TDD activity. Everyone plays an important role in Total Defence.
