Chinese New Year Concert (Galloping Towards Success)

Chinese New Year (CNY) Celebration at WGS is one of the most eagerly anticipated event for Term 1 .In line with the year of the Horse, our theme for CNY is ‘Galloping Towards Success’.

A series of activities were organized to celebrate the event. The Secondary 1 students worked together in teams to make beautiful collages using  recycled materials, while our secondary 2 and 3 unleashed their creativity and imagination to construct 3D horses. The graduating classes on the other hand put their minds together to choreograph catchy dance steps for the Inter-class Gangnam Style Dance Competition.

In addition the Secondary One students were taught the CNY song ‘Gong Xi Gong Xi’ which they sang with much gusto and spirit at the concert. The secondary 2 students designed beautiful cards for the teachers and the elderly from Sun Love Organisation. The elderly from the Sun Love Organisation joined us during the CNY concert and they were also beneficiaries of our annual Food Hamper project. The members of the Parents’ Support Group have contributed some CNY goodies for the elderly to munch on as they watched the CNY concert.

The opening performance by Chinese Orchestra percussionists was impressive and it successfully captured the attention of the audience. All the Performance Arts groups also gave their best in their respective performance. Kudos to the group of  students who have shown that they have benefitted from their Conservational Chines classes when they bravely stood on the stage to sing a Chinese song live. The 4 finalists for the Inter-class Gangnam (CNY Style) competition have indeed added the excitement to the CNY concert with cheers from their supporters. Last but not least, the Lion Dance team, Big Heads and Stilt Walkers came together to put up a display of agility, enthusiasm and talent. The whole heartwarming celebration ended with a finale song “Gong Xi Gong Xi”. Indeed, the WGS family was treated to an awesome concert, which would linger in our minds as one of beautiful memories as part of Woodgrove family.

To end the day, our pioneer principal, Mrs Helena Song, members of the School Advisory Committee, Parents Support Group members and alumni also joined the staff of WGS and the elderly from Sun Love in CNY Loi Hei and brunch. Our hopes and wishes were blended together as we tossed the Yu Sheng. The spirit of togetherness was indeed significant as we celebrate Chinese New Year as one big WGS family.
