Design & Technology Unit

The students learn mainly through design-and-make projects guided by a design process. The subject focuses on the development of freehand sketching skills through idea generation and development; it offers tactile learning experiences for pupils to construct prototypes of developed ideas.

D&T is compulsory for all lower secondary students [Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical)]. Students are assessed mainly through Design Projects with each project allocated four to six weeks and provides pupils the opportunity to work with at least one resistant material (wood, metal and plastics). There is no written examination at lower secondary.

For upper secondary, D&T is offered as an elective subject for upper secondary students [Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical)]. Students are assessed mainly through practical sessions, design projects and written examination. When taking national examination, students would have to complete their coursework within a given period of time and sit for a written examination in Oct/Nov period.
