NUS Geography Challenge 2016
The following students: Iman Dzafir Bin Kasni (3E2), Lim Xiang Long (3E1) and Tham Eik Siang (3E1) represented the school on 27 February 2016 in the NUS Geography Challenge 2016.
It was an annual competition organised by the National University of Singapore Geographical Society at the NUS Kent Ridge Campus. The theme for this year’s challenge was ‘Our Evolving Cities: People and environment’, which exposed our students to relevant geographical issues affecting cities in the world today. The team spent a few afternoons after school to train for the competition with their Humanities teachers Ms Veronica Lam and Mr Koh C K.
Although the team did not made it to the next round of the competition, it was a good learning experience for our students who were exposed to challenging geographical questions which tested their knowledge about the world in both physical and human geography ‘spheres’ as well as their perspectives on world issues.
Our students emerged from the competition with more exposure to knowledge beyond the textbooks and O-level syllabus and a better appreciation for the subject.
